Non-EU students (i.e. students who are not EU citizens) residing abroad, in order to enrol at a University in Italy, must prove their knowledge of the Italian language. They can do so by submitting a valid language certificate from among those listed below, or by passing the Italian language proficiency test required by the chosen university.

Italian language proficiency test

The Italian language proficiency test in place at the University of Verona is the CISIA ITA-L2 test.

A minimun score of 48 points is required.

Please note this is an online test. Applicants who are regularly registered on Universitaly, according to the methods set out in the Circular of the Italian Ministry of University and Research about the enrolment of international students, are advised that it is their responsibility to prepare in advance and be ready to take the test remotely, following the instructions made available on the CISIA website.

Applicants registered on Universitaly for University of Verona must:

  • register their data on Esse3;
  • register for the Italian language test "Prova di conoscenze della lingua italiana ITA-L2" on Esse3,  in the following exam session:

Applicants who will not take part in the test by not connecting on the test date, will be regarded as withdrawing applicants. Applicants who can prove that they have not taken the test on their test date for justified reasons may be admitted to take the test on another date, subject to slot availability. Again, dates will be allocated automatically.
Applicants who have regularly registered for the test will be admitted to take the test on the first available test date.

Italian language certificates

You will be exempt from taking a language proficiency test if:

- you hold an Italian language certificate at B2 level awarded by one of the following institutes: Università per stranieri di Perugia; Università per stranieri di Siena; Università Roma Tre; Società Dante Alighieri; Università per stranieri Dante Alighieri di Reggio Calabria, also as part of partnerships with Italian Cultural Institutes abroad, or other affiliated entities. Language certificates can be obtained by taking the relevant language test in the applicant’s home country, at an approved test centre;

- you have already taken, in 2022, the same CISIA ITA-L2 test organized by another University, scoring at least 48 points. In this case, you are supposed to submit to our offices the test certification, which will be checked for autenticity.

If you are in one of the above situations and wish to request an exemption from taking the test, please send us (admission@ateneo.univr.it) your certificates no later than 3 days before the relevant ‘Publication of notice deadline’.
