Activity

We oversee the IT system and promote technological developments that help the university become more digital.

Our office aims to define, integrate and rationalise the university IT system and introduce technological innovations to improve services, especially for teaching and student support.
Thus, on one hand we manage the entire university IT system, and on the other hand, we introduce, promote and test all the technologies that could increase the digitalisation of processes used by different departments and offices.
Our computer systems staff ensure the university IT system runs smoothly at all times. This team keeps the system updated, monitors the running of the system and prepares all the procedures necessary to guarantee its reliability.
The networking team is responsible for creating, implementing and managing service networks. We introduce, promote and install new hardware and software to ensure the connectivity of the networks themselves, while following the most advanced security standards.
The information systems team aims to introduce applications or automation processes in response to specific requests from users. Our staff draw up dedicated projects to fulfil these requests while taking account of the organisational and technological implications.
Lastly, our office has a services team which mans the virtual Help Desk, providing assistance to the whole university, whether in person or remotely, to resolve all the kinds of questions and problems that such an intricate IT network might entail.

Administration and Accounting Unit
This unit provides:
  • Administrative and accounting support.
  • Secretarial services for the head office.

Area of responsibility

Computer Systems Group
The Computer Systems group manages the servers needed to provide infrastructure services, adopting procedures to ensure efficient continuity of service (clustering and disaster recovery). Our group is responsible for:
  •  Monitoring and managing the Linux servers required to provide IT infrastructure services.
  •  Ensuring continuity of service for the Linux servers: monitoring, logging and disaster recovery.
  •  Monitoring and managing the Linux servers needed to provide IT infrastructure services.
  •  Ensuring service recovery of the Windows servers: backup and restoring.
  •  Monitoring and managing the essential servers for accreditation, authentication, IT authorisation and management of the IT labs: GIA and Livenet.
  •  Monitoring and supporting the basic management of HPC scientific computing servers and clustered Web and Intranet servers.

Information Systems Group
Our group is involved in computerising and streamlining university processes, managing existing software and developing and adding new services.
 

Networking group
The Networking Group is involved in designing, constructing and managing the network infrastructure required for students and staff to use the university’s computer services.
This is developed in line with the continual evolution of IT technology and at the same time allows us to manage the internal security of the university network.
Specifically, our group is responsible for:
  •  Implementing, monitoring and managing the active equipment used for basic wired and wireless connectivity services (routing, DHCP, DNS, NTP, logging) at all the university’s sites.
  •  Implementing, monitoring and managing VPN and peer services with the Integrated University Hospital.
  •  Implementing, monitoring and managing the security of services (DMZ firewall) and perimeter connectivity (UTM border firewall), threat analysis and reporting.
  •  Coordinating the working group on Minimum Measures.
  •  Implementing, monitoring and managing authentication services for the wired (802.1x) and wireless network and network services.
  •  Providing first and second level help desk support for issues related to data network access.
  •  Managing geographical connections between university sites (backbones and connections between buildings at the same campus).
  •  Implementing, managing and maintaining devices in the technical rooms where the data network is distributed.

Services Group
Our group designs and manages the university help desk system to respond efficiently to all user needs while maintaining the highest standards of IT security.
 

Communication Office
The Communication Office deals with communication and marketing for Verona University. It organises and coordinates events, exhibitions and all operations which serve to develop communication both inside and outside the University. It also publishes material in support of the various services offered by the University in collaboration with departments of the University such as the Centre for Graphic Arts. It looks after relations with the media and operates as a press office, arranging collaboration with local televisions, radio stations and newspapers. It manages every stage of communication, from the initial idea to completion in order that Verona University be recognised in the world outside in all its many facets.
